Grassroots Youth Development Bursary Scheme 2026

 


Masinyusane Development Organisation is a youth-focused non-profit based in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth). Since 2008, the organisation has been helping young people from disadvantaged background access education and life opportunities.

Masinyusane believes that education can change lives when it is given with cre, guidance and real support. Through bursaries, Mentorship and community programmes, they help students grow academically and personally, not just pass but succeed.

Fields of Study

The Grassroots Youth Development (GYD) Bursary is open for 2026 applications.

This bursary supports undergraduate students studying in ANY field including:

  • Degrees
  • Diplomas
  • Certificate
No matter what you want to study, this bursary gives you a chance.

The bursary is available to students living in:
  • Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality
  • Sundays River Valley Local Municipality (Eastern Cape)

What the bursary covers

Successful students may receive full or partial funding, which can include:
  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Study material and textbooks
  • Accomodation support
  • Monthly living or transport allowance
Each bursary is awarded for one academic year. Students can reapply every year if they perform well academically. You will also get mentorship support, so you are not walking the journey alone.

Who can apply?

You can apply if:
  • You are a South African citizen
  • You are under 29 years old
  • You have completed Matric
  • You live in Nelson Mandela Bay or Sundays River Valley
  • You are studying or planning to study for an undergraduate qualification
  • You are accepted or provisionally accepted at a public university or TVET college
  • Your household income is below R350 000 per year

Required documents

Make sure you prepare clear, certified copies of: 
  • South African ID
  • Matric results or certificate
  • Proof of tertiary acceptance
  • Academic record (if already studying)
  • Parents\guardians' IDs
  • Proof of household income
  • Proof of residence
  • Recent bank statements (parents\guardians)
Missing documents may results in disqualification, double check before submitting.

Closing Date

23 January 2026
Late applications will not be accepted.
