ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER

Founded in 1994, Vodacom Group Limited (Vodacom) is a mobile communications business based in South Africa that offers its more than 50 million subscribers convergent services, voice, message, and data. Previously controlled by Telkom and Vodafone, each of whom owned 50% of the company, Vodafone raised its ownership to 65% in 2008, and Telkom announced plans to offer the remaining shares on the JSE. With almost 58% of the market, Vodacom is actually the leading cellular network in South Africa.

The business currently serves clients in over 40 African nations, including Zambia, Nigeria, Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, and Côte d'Ivoire, in addition to operating in South Africa and having networks in Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

FIELDS COVERED

Undergraduate studies in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) will be eligible to receive funding.

BURSARY COVERAGE, BENEFITS AND SELECTION

The following costs will be covered by the bursary: tuition, registration fees, textbook allowance, meal allowance, and housing costs in university housing or a cap on private housing.

Along with the following benefits, bursary recipients will also receive a laptop and cellphone: full access to Wellness Program (ICAS) services; workplace exposure through the structured Vacation Work program; work readiness skill training for final-year students to acquire skills to enter the working world; and an orientation workshop for all new bursary students.

The results of each application will be communicated to all applicants by December 15, 2025, at the latest. Please consider your application unsuccessful if, by this date, you have not heard back.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Before applying, candidates must meet the following minimal standards:

 

  • You must have been born a citizen of South Africa.
  • You must be enrolled in or have finished your matriculation.
  • You must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in one of the aforementioned fields of study full-time or plan to do so.
  • In 2026, you must be starting your first, second, or third year of full-time education.
  • You must be enrolled in or plan to enroll in a South African postsecondary institution that is recognized and accredited.
  • You must obtain a minimum score of 70% in every subject and an exemption pass in Matric.
  • If you are a first-year or higher student, you must have obtained a minimum overall tertiary average of 65%.
  • You must be in need of funding.

if you don't meet them all, your application won't be taken into consideration.

APPLICATION PROCESS FOR THE VODACOM BURSARY

Submit your application online via the2026 Bursary Application portal.

With your online application, provide clear copies of the following supporting documents:

  • Identity document (certified copy)
  • Results from grade 11 and the most recent Matric results, if you're enrolled in Matric, and your Matric certificate, if you've finished Matric (certified copy)
  • Complete transcripts and academic record, if enrolled in classes (on school letterhead)
  • Statement of fees, if enrolled in classes (on letterhead from the university)
  • Evidence of admission to a postsecondary institution (on the letterhead of the institution)
  • Evidence of any pending additional bursary awards
