Cape Gate Holdings is a part of the established Cape Gate group of companies, which is a proudly South African steel wire products company. Established in Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng, it initially started with small-scale production of wire netting but is currently a major player in such markets as far as agriculture, mining, construction, engineering, trade, and exports are concerned.

Fields of study

Applications are open for the Cape Gate Issac Joffe Fellowship, aimed at supporting students pursuing undergraduate Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degrees in critical engineering disciplines:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronic Engineering
  • Mechatronics Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
This opportunity is ideal for academically strong students with a passion for engineering and innovation.

What the bursary offers

The fellowship provides comprehensive financial support, which may include:
  • Registration and tuition fees
  • Study material and book allowance 
  • A once-off laptop\computer allowance
  • Personal allowance
  • University residence accomodation and meals
  • Or a living allowance for students staying off-campus
Funding is awarded annually and may be renewed based on good academic performance. Support is limited to the official duration of the degree programme.

Selection process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews. Final outcome will be communicated by 31 January 2026. If you are not contacted by then, please consider the application unsuccessful.

Work-Back & Career Development 

Successful students will participate in paid vacation work during the December\January holidays. After graduation, recepients are expected to work for Cape Gate for a period equal to the funding received. Employment will be offered at a markert-related rates, subject to company needs. Should a student decline this obligation, all bursary funds (plus interest) must be repaid.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Currently in Matric or have completed Matric
  • Planning to study or already studying full-time towards a BEng qualification listed above
  • Entering 1st or 2nd year of study in 2026
  • Enrolled or intending to enrol at a recognised South African University 
  • Strong academic performance
  • Demonstrated financial need 
  • Not receiving any other bursary or financial aid
