SAPREF (South African Petroleum Refinery) is an industry leader in the energy sector of South Africa and operates one of the larger refineries in the country. The company is important in providing vital fuels and other petroleum based commodities to boost the country's infrastructure and industry. 

SAPREF is focused on skills development and education and therefore provides various bursaries to uplift and empower the youth of South Africa to make successful contributions in technical, engineering and business-related profession streams. Fields Covered

The SAPREF bursary programme is open for the 2026 academic year and supports students studying towards the following qualifications:

  • Chemical Engineering (BSc Eng)
  • Electrical Engineering \ Instrumentation Engineering (BSc Eng)
  • Mechanical Engineering (BSc Eng)
  • Environmental Science (BSc)
  • Finance \ Logistics \ Supply Chain Management \ Human Resources Management (BCom)
This bursary is aimed at developing the next generation of professionals who can contribute meaningfully to South Africa's energy and industrial sectors.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must be entering their 1st or 2nd year of study in 2026
  • Must be pursuing one of the eligible fields listed above
  • Must be registered or provisionally accepted at a recognised public university in South Africa (private institution are not funded)
  • Must have a strong academic record and commitment to their studies
