AGBIZ Centenary Bursary 2026

Agbiz Agribusiness Chamber the Agricultural Business Chamber was established in 1946 as the Co-Operative Council to promote the interests of agricultural co-operatives. After South African agricultural deregulation in 1995, it was re-named the Agricultural Co-operative Business (ACB). In 2003 the name was adjusted to the Agricultural Business Chamber (ABC) and in 2012, Agbiz re-launched.

Today, Agbiz serves agribusinesses in South Africa and across southern Africa with the motto “The way to prosperity.” The organisation is working to achieve this so that agribusiness can realise its full potential in bolstering South Africa’s economic growth, transformation and development.

There will be an Agbiz Centenary Bursary Fund, which has been created for celebrating in essence, past members of 100 years life.


FIELDS COVERED

Agbiz is offering bursaries for the year 2026 to students who want to pursue a career in agriculture, agribusiness and related fields: Apply For Agbiz Centenary Bursary 2026.

The bursary is for Master or PhD studies in the field of Agribusiness Management.


COVERAGE VALUE & SELECTION

(The value of the bursary is R47 500 in one academic year).

The students have to re-apply each year and are allowed to renew the funding if they get good results in examinations.

Funds are transferred to student’s university account (or as otherwise arranged) in the February 2026.

The winning candidate will be contacted by mid-January 2026. If you do not hear from us by then, your application wasn't successful.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must:

  1. Be South African citizens.
  2. Have finished or currently be on the last year of an equivalent to a B.Sc. degree.
  3. Be registered or be eligible to register for a postgraduate (Master’s or PhD) in Agribusiness Management-related qualifications, at a recognized South African university.
  4. Pass in all major subjects at 60%.
  5. Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged candidates, ladies and people with disabilities.

Selection criteria include:

  1. Academic achievement and research significance to agribusiness.
  2. Alignment of field of study and eagerness to follow research advice from AGBIZ.
  3. Motivation and purpose of application.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Attach certified copies of the following documents:

  1. South Africa ID Card or Citizenship proof
  2. Institutional letter forwarded on official letterhead with full academic record (Undergraduate).
  3. For Postgraduate studies, evidence of Registration or Admission letter
  4. Reference (maximum 1 page) from supervisor or Head of Department
  5. Motivational letter (maximum 1 page) describing why you should receive the bursary and what you plan to do with it
  6. Declaration of any other bursary or financial assistance

IMPORTANT NOTES

  1. All candidates will receive an acknowledgment receipt via e-mail after submitting their application.
  2. Applications that are not complete or are received after the deadline will not be considered.
  3. Aid Programme recipients: progress by Bursary holders will biannually be reported on by their academic supervisor or HoD to policy@agbiz.co.za
  4. The bursary should be discontinued if the student withdraws or is not making satisfactory progress. In these cases, the money has to be paid back with interest.
  5. Bursary holders are required to enter into a formal bursary agreement with Agbiz.
  6. All other sources of financial support must be identified on the application form.
