The city of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality (CoJ) is responsible for providing local government services to Johannesburg, such as healthcare, education, welfare, and community services. The City of Johannesburg is served by several media institutions.
The metropolitan municipality serves as the local government for the majority of the metropolitan area, though a few outer suburbs in the south are governed by nearby municipalities: it is not to be confused with these smaller municipalities are several other small towns and urban areas that function quasi-autonomously.

Financial assistance is available to the youth of Johannesburg to enabling them by being able to contribute in the socio-economic development of their families or communities as a whole in the following sectors:

Coverage, Renewal & Selection
Coverage includes registration fees, tuition and examination fees, books and other study material (up to R40 000) per annum
This is awarded on an annual basis and may be renewed annually depending on the student's academic performance.
Candidates who are shortlisted will be informed within 6 weeks after the closing date and invited for an interview.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates must satisfy the following conditions:
- South African citizen
- Permanently reside in Johannesburg, Gauteng
- Currently in Matric or you have completed your Matric
- So, currently studying (or planning to study full-time) toward an undergraduate qualification in any of the above fields?
- Course must be minimum 1 year long.
- By a public university in South Africa
- Strong academic record
- Cannot be in receipt of any other bursary or scholarship

Submit certified copies of:
- ID document
- matric results (if currently in matric) or Certified copy of your Matric certificate (if completed)
- Latest tertiary results (if still studying)
- Residence in Johannesburg (rates or utility bill)
- Parents/guardians income proof (recent payslips, affidavit if unemployed or death certificate if applicable)
Incomplete applications will be considered invalid.
