Cape Wools SA Bursary 2026

 

Cape Wools SA (CWSA) was founded in 1997 and is the official body representing South Africa’s wool industry. It includes wool processors, buyers and traders, brokers, small stock breeders the wool testing group and industry labour.

The CWSA aims at promoting the South African wool industry through research, development, market intelligence and promotion projects. CWSA administers the Wool Industry Bursary Trust in conjunction with the Wool Trust, offering bursaries to deserving wool industry students.


Fields Covered

The bursary is available for students who are studying toward the following qualifications:

  1. Design (textile and fashion with wool) and,
  2. Wool or sheep industry-related studies

Coverage & Benefits

Bursaries may cover:

  1. Registration and tuition fees
  2. Accommodation
  3. Prescribed books and study materials
  4. Grootfontein Agricultural College – Practical on farm training (up to R20 000 per learner payable to the farmer)

Up to 4 weeks of vacation & +17 Weekends on Approved Wool Farm Mandatory for Students. Recipients are required to give one year of service in the wool industry for every year aid is received.


Renewal & Selection

Awarded based on academic merit

Reviewed every six months

Renewal requires a satisfactory academic record to be submitted by the student

Preference is given to:

  1. For agricultural university/college students in textile/fashion design.
  2. Students in their 3rd year or later (Honours, Masters and PhD)
  3. Previously disadvantaged students

Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Criteria Applicants must satisfy the following candidature criteria:

  1. South African citizen
  2. Studying or planning to study Textile/Fashion Design with a wool major
  3. Meet all institution admission requirements
  4. Must be ≥50% wool and final year collection items
  5. Wool applications for master's students (1st year only) at least one must involve wool.

Grootfontein students:

  1. Wool (Merino production) from 3rd year
  2. Follow college rules and continue to make satisfactory academic progress
