The Macmillan Foundation is an official not for Profit, created by SNAPP Architects to support education & enablement in architecture. The foundation is dedicated to supporting previously disadvantaged black women in the country under 35 by providing financial aid and mentorship so they can complete postgraduate architecture qualifications.
The foundation's bursary and mentorship programmes are designed to enable new ways of thinking and practicing, developing the next generation of innovative thinkers and doers, that add to a more flexible and open architectural landscape in South Africa.
FIELDS COVERED
Macmillan Foundation Bursary is now accepting applications from Black South African Female Students with Postgraduate Degrees in Architecture at a South African University for 2021.
The bursary programme was developed as it is essential for us to encourage academically talented women with a good financial background in order to progress through their studies in Architecture.
COVERAGE & SELECTION
The bursary is tenable for one academic year.
Payment is made to the university itself when proof of registration and a valid tax invoice are submitted.
Final selection depends on:
- the applicant’s closing academic standing and
- Evidence of payment of tuition fees to the institution.
Applicants selected will be notified by 2 December 2025.
If you have not had any response by this date, please assume that on this occasion you have been unsuccessful.
Beneficiaries will be expected to enter into a bursary contract with the Foundation.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The persons applying are however subjected to some minimum requirements as follows:
- Must be a citizen of South Africa
- Black (as far as RSA B-BBEE Codes are concerned)
- Must be female
- Must be studying or planning to study towards a Postgraduate Qualification in Architecture
- Registered at a South African university.
- Should he be able to finish his degree so long as he turned 35 before doing it?
- Should have excellent academic credentials
- Must have no criminal record

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
Submission of the following clear copies is required:
- Certified ID document
- Latest academic results
- Evidence of existing university account (with clear information regarding whether it’s paid or outstanding)
- One academic reference – letter of recommendation from a tutor
- Statement of indebtedness from studies if any
- Financial Dependency upon the parents only affidavit (if applicable)
- Other supporting material (CV/portfolio etc)
