Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) Scholarship



The Mandela Institute for Development Studies (MINDS) was born out of the deep concern about the scale of underdevelopment in Africa.

MINDS is an institution of excellence that seeks to address the challenges Africa faces by repositioning our people’s thinking and reimagining l toolkit for growth and development o Africa. Its goal is to achieve harmonized and sustained development in the continent.

MINDS initiates a number of important programmes including: The African Heritage Programme, Economic and Regional Integration Programme Youth Programme on Elections & Governance Scholarship Programme for Leadership Development (SPFLD)

MINDS offers a grant for African leadership development program in South Africa than started in 2017 to offer scholarships to develop young African leaders. The program allows participants to study in an African country other than their own of origin, encouraging them to witness the diversity of the continent and gain a wider insight into development opportunities in Africa.


FIELDS COVERED

The MINDS Masters Scholarship Programme for Leadership Development in Africa has now opened the applications for its 2019 cohort of Pan-African students.

There are scholarships available to students for any field of study, as long as studies occur outside the student’s home country. The programme aims to cultivate leaders who can envision the continent’s future in the context of African identity and unity.


COVERAGE VALUE

Scholarship Description The Scholarship offers fully or partially funded opportunity, that includes the following expenses:

  1. Tuition fees
  2. Accommodation
  3. Meals
  4. One round-trip ticket for the length of studies
  5. Fixed stipend which will be decided based on several conditions (exact amount to be revealed to successful applicants).


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, applicants must:

Be citizens and residents of an African country.

Have been accepted to study at one of the participating institutions (in a country other than their own) below:

Southern Africa:

  1. University of Cape Town Provost (South Africa)
  2. University of the Witwatersrand(South Africa)
  3. African Leadership University (Mauritius)
  4. University of Mauritius (Mauritius)

East Africa:

  1. African Leadership University (Rwanda)
  2. Carnegie Mellon University (Rwanda)
  3. Makerere University (Uganda)
  4. Strathmore University (Kenya)

North Africa:

  1. Al Akhawayn University (Morocco)
  2. Université Cadi Ayyad (Morocco)
  3. Université Mohammed V (Morocco)

West Africa:

  1. Pan-Atlantic University (Lagos Business School) Nigeria
  2. 22 Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (Ghana)
  3. University of Development Studies (Ghana)

Be enrolled in, or have applied for admittance to, a full‐time postgraduate (Honours or Master’s) degree programme at Vienna International School for the upcoming academic year.

Make Sure to meet the folllowing:

  1. Minimum of 70% the two previous years in all courses.
  2. Show leadership or have the potential for it, as stated by the application requirements.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

What Documents do You Need to Apply for a DOST Scholarship? Applicants should submit the following scanned copies of documents:

  1. Passport bio/data page
  2. Official transcript of records for the last 2 years of study
  3. An official acceptance letter from University (including your name, programme, year of study and duration)
  4. Extensive CV/Resume (up to 4 single sided pages)
  5. Current study visa/permit or confirmation of lodging application to study.
  6. Two (2) letters of reference addressing personality, leadership potential and integrity as well as commitment to Africa’s development. (not more than 3 pages)
