WEST COAST DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY


  

The West Coast District Municipality is a Category C municipality covering the entire West Coast district of the Western Cape province.

The WCDM is a region situated along the Atlantic coast, western side of the Western Cape Province with total area of over 30 000 km and about 350 km long (in a northto-south direction). The seat of the municipality is Moorreesburg.

The district municipality comprises five local municipalities: Saldanha Bay, Bergrivier, Matzikama, Cederberg and Swartland. The first objective of WCDM is to strengthen local governance and enhance the availability of services and resources to communities within the district.


FIELDS COVERED

WCDM is calling on students to apply for its external bursary programme for 2023. Grants are offered for undergraduate courses in the subsequent areas:

  1. Accounting
  2. Civil Engineering
  3. Economics
  4. Electrical Engineering
  5. Environmental Health Practices
  6. Financial Management
  7. Human Resource Management / Development
  8. Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
  9. Internal Auditing
  10. Public Administration / Management
  11. Risk Management
  12. Supply Chain Management


BURSARY VALUE, RENEWAL & SELECTION

The value of the bursary is R50 000 (excluding accommodation and other expenses).

The funding will be offered for the complete duration of qualification, subject to the bursary holder maintaining satisfactory progress and complying with all conditions.

Provisionally selected applicants will be notified by 31 October 2022. If you have not heard from us within 30 days after the closing date, please accept that your application was unsuccessful.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

  1. You (or your parents/guardians) must be resident(s) of the West Coast Municipal Area.
  2. You need to be doing Matric or you must have completed Matric.
  3. Applicants must be registered or plan to study a full-time undergraduate degree/national diploma in one of the aforementioned fields of (or part-time at UNISA).
  4. You need to be reading at a South African based and recognised University or University of Technology.
  5. You should have passed Matric Mathematics with no less than 40% or alternatively Mathematical Literacy achieved only 50%.
  6. An average of 60%, or 50% combined with 60% in Mathematics.
  7. Preference will be given to previously disadvantaged students and individuals with disabilities.


REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Applicants must present certified copies of the following:

  1. ID document
  2. Most recent Matric results (if currently in Matric) or Matric certificate (if completed)
  3. Recent school reports (if at senior or tertiary level)
  4. Confirmation of third year registration (on a letter head of the institution)
  5. Residence Proof (both Applicant as well as his/her Parents/Guardians).
  6. Parents or legal guardians’ ID and proof of household income (payslips, affidavits, bank statements or grant proof)
  7. Guardianship affidavit (if not residing with parents)
  8. The ids of all the people that depend on him in his house
  9. Written motivation (not more than 1000 words) indicating why you want to study a particular field and should be awarded the bursary.
  10. Proof of disability (if applicable)
