KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Provincial Bursary Program 2026 is open for applicants for the purpose of assisting students in KwaZulu-Natal who would like to further their studies in priority fields in line with the developmental needs of KwaZulu-Natal province. The KwaZulu-Natal Province was formed in 1994 by the amalgamation of KwaZulu and Natal. KwaZulu-Natal is the second most populated province in South Africa. The main cities in this province are Durban and Pietermatzburg; the latter is the capital. The provincial government has a number of departments which it operates, these include: Agriculture and Rural Development, Arts and Culture, Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Health, Education, Transport, etc.
Through the bursary scheme, the provincial government is able to invest in the yout who have the potential to make a contribution towards service delivery and socio-economic development.
The KZN Government Bursary Program for the year 2026 aims at benefiting students living in KwaZulu-Natal who wish to pursue degrees in various approved fields. The awards are available in a number of selected departments and are specifically for undergraduate studies in accredited public universities.

What the Bursary Covers
Successful applicants may receive funding for:
- Tuition fees
- Accomodation
- Meals or monthly stipend
- Prescribed textbooks (where necessary)
Recipients must sign a bursary contract agreeing to work for the relevant department for the same number of years that they received funding.
Selection Process & Feedback
- Selection is based on academic performance, eligibility and departmental needs.
- Successful applicants will be contacted directly.
- If no feedback is received within 4 months after the closing date, the application should be regarded as unsuccessful.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Be a resident of KwaZulu-Natal
- Have completed Matric
- Be studying or planning to study full-time in an approved field in 2026
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa
- Preferences is given to students studying within KwaZulu-Natal
- Youth with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply

Supporting Documents Required
Applicants must submit certified copies of the following:
- SouthAfrican ID document
- Matric certificate
- Latest academic results (if currently studying)
- Proof of registration, acceptance or provisional acceptance (on institution letterhead)
- Parents' or guardians' ID documents (or death certifiate if deceased)
- Proof of household income (payslips, proof of unemployment, pension or grant proof)
- Proof of residence in KZN (letter from ward councillor)
- Profiling certificate (if applicable)
