ABOUT THE BURSARY PROVIDER

Established in 1950, the South African Road Federation (SARF) serves as a platform for South Africans to express their concerns about the local road sector and road management across the nation. The SARF facilitates communication amongst the nation's road industry sectors and helps disseminate professional advice across disciplines.

The organization is committed to advancing the road sector in South Africa and fostering economic development through training and education.

FIELDS COVERED

The SARF grants bursaries for study in fields related to road transport every year.
Undergraduate and postgraduate bursaries will be given out in the following fields:

  • Road Safety Engineering
  • Road Transport Economics
  • Road Transport Management
  • Road Engineering, including specializations such as:

Civil Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Bridge Engineering, Pavement Engineering, Transportation Planning, Construction Management, Construction Materials, Storm Water, Environmental Engineering

BURSARY COVERAGE

The SARF grant is a kind of partial bursary intended for aiding students with costs associated with their studies. The student's financial necessity and the Federation Council's judgment determine the final bursary amount.

Individuals who get will get awarded with the bursary must:

  • Present their research topic to the local branch of the Federation.
  • Submit a report every six months, detailing their educational progress.
  • Join the SARF as an associate member.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Before applying, candidates must meet the following minimal standards;

  • The Southern African Development Community (SADC) comprises 16 countries: Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Although South African citizens will be given preference, members of SADC nations may also apply.
  • You have to be pursuing a degree in one of the aforementioned road transport disciplines.
  • You must be enrolled in a South African university, university of technology, or other recognized and accredited postsecondary institution.
  • The appropriate academic authority at the tertiary institution of your choice must approve your application.
  • Students pursuing a national diploma must have passed the S1 exams in the first semester.
  • Students pursuing degrees: you must have passed the initial year's exams.
  • Although advanced students (MTech, MSc, or above) will be given preference, undergraduate students may also apply.
  • Full-time students will be given preference, but students enrolled in part-time or distance learning programs may also apply.
  • SARF members' employees will be given preference.
  • After graduation, you must plan to work in the road transport sector in South Africa.

Access and fill in theSARF Bursary Application Form 2025to apply.

Together with your filled-out application, send in clear copies of the following supporting papers:

  • Identity document (certified copy)
  • Year-end results for grade 11 (certified copy)
  • Certificate of Matriculation (certified copy)
  • Latest tertiary results (on letterhead from the institution)

you must provide these documents; otherwise, your application may be rejected
