The Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) is a national government agency created through the National Railway Safety Regulator Act of 2002. It is primarily tasked with ensuring that railway operations are conducted safely throughout South Africa and those neighbouring countries that operate cross-boarder rail services.
The organizations remains committed to proteting it passengers, workers, communities and stakeholders through strict compliance standard for safety. Operating from its head office in Bruma, Johannesburg, the RSR has another office in Cape Town's CBD.

The Railway Safety Regulator call for students to apply for its 2026 undergraduate bursary programme. The purpose of this initiative is to provide support to young people studying in fields which are considered to be high priority areas for the nation.
Funding is available for the following study areas:
- Civil Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Financial Management
- Human Resources Management
- Information Technology
- Internal Auditing
- Law
- Mechanical Engineering
- Media & Communication
- Risk Management
- Supply Chain Management
Selection Process
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a South African citizen
- Be in Matric OR have already completed Matric
- Be betwen 15 and 35 years old
- Plan to study or currently study full-time towards a undergraduate qualification in one of the approved fields
- Be studying at or accepted into an accredited South African tertiary institution (TVET colleges, University, or University of Technology)
- Have a minimum 65% average (Grade 11 final or Matric mid-term results for first year applicants
- Not receiving any other bursary or financial sponsorship

- South African ID
- Grade 11 final and latest Matric results (for people who are in Matric)
- Matric certificate (if already completed)
- Full academic record (if already studying)
- Proof of admission\registration
- Quotation for annual tuition fees
- Motivational letter
