The Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust (TWFT) focuses on uplifting communities around the Tsitsikama area by supporting education, social development and long-term growth. The trust is linked to the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Energy Facility in the Eastern Cape, a renewable energy project made up of 31 turbines that supply clean electricity to thousands of South African households.
Fields of study covered
The Tsitsikamma Wind Farm Trust is inviting students from local communities to apply for funding for the 2026 academic year. Bursaries are available to applicants living near the Tsitsikamma Community Wind Farm (AmaMfengu, Koukamma or Kouga) in the following broad study categories:
- Agriculture (Crop & livestock studies, Agricultural Economics)
- Business & Finance (Accounting, Auditing, Economics, Actuarial Science, Operations Management)
- IT & Computer Sciences (Computer Sciences, Data Sciences, Information Technology)
- Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Renewable Energy, Mechatronics)
- Environmental Studies (Hydrology, Water Resources, Environmental Sciences)
- Health Sciences (Medicine, Nursing, Optometry, Radiography, therapy fields, Nutrition, Emergency Care, Pharmacy, Medical Lab Science)
- Law (LLB & related studies)
- Social Sciences & Education (Social Work, Psychology. Development Studies, Languages, Media & Communication, and Education - Maths, Science, English & ECD)
What the bursary covers
The TWFT bursary provides full financial support, including:
- Tuition fees
- Prescribed learning materials
- Accommodation
- Monthly allowance
- Continuous mentorship throughout the academic year
Funding is granted for one year at a time, students must reapply annually, and academic performance will be considered for renewal.
Eligibility Requirements
To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must be Black (according to DTI codes)
- Must live within 50 km of the Tsitsikamma Wind Farm in the AmaMfengu, Koukamma or Kouga communities
- Must plan to study one of the approved fields (Engineering applicants receive preference)
- Must be accepted or provisionally accepted at a public university or TVET college
- Household income must not exceed R350 000 per year
- Current bursary holders must have passed at least 75% of their modules

- Proof of household income (payslips \ affidavit \ SASSA letter \ death certificate)
- Parents\guardians 3 months bank statements
- Proof of address (municipal bill, councillor letter, or affidavit)
