History KPMG (Klynveld Peat Marwick Goerdeler) was founded in 1987 with the merger of Peat Marwick International (itself a product of the merger between Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and KMG) and Klynveld Main Goerdeler – it had been providing services in Belgium since 1959. However, KPMG has a long history in South Africa town, going back to 1895 when Alexander Aiken set up his Public Accountant and Auditor practice in Johannesburg. The firm’s roots go back to two major firms — Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. and Aiken & Carter.


KPMG today is one of the world’s largest professional services companies and offers audit, tax, and advisory services to clients around the globe. The company, which serves customers in both the public and private sectors, has more than 162,000 employees worldwide.


KPMG selects successful applicants to receive a Bursary in the following categories: Pure Merit (based on academic results only) and Merit with Financial Need, determined by academic performance and need; as well as the financial position of KPMG.

Upon completion of your studies, you will be required to enter into a formal learnership contract with the KPMG SA and continue your studies towards the professional qualification.


FIELDS COVERED

KPMG offers two bursaries to students studying towards a SAICA accredited CA (SA) degree:

  1. Pure Merit Bursary: Academic merit only, for those who do not require financial assistance.
  2. Academic with Bursary Financial need: For students who would not be able to Study without financial assistance.


ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To be eligible, applicants must satisfy these criteria:

  1. Should be a SA citizen
  2. Should be in Matric or completed Matric
  3. Must be studying towards or intend on studying full time for a SAICA accredited CA(SA) qualification
  4. Currently in full-time studies at an SAICA accredited university Must be registered or intending to register as a Chartered Accountant (CA) (South Africa)antidad ACCEPTED: SAICA will accept quantity of registered CTA students.
  5. Must not let studies suffer
  6. Shall satisfactorily complete the degree within the minimum period of registration.
  7. Academic performance requirements:
    • Matric students: 4 distinctions as a minimum (Including Life orientation).
    • 1st year: A minimum of 70% for Accounting and an average of at least 65%
    • 2nd year: A minimum of 65% for Accounting, and an overall average of 65%.

    • Honours/ CTA: 55% for accounting and an average of 50% may be accepted at the discretion of the Head of Department.)

Merit Bursary Financial Need Candidates are required to show evidence of financial need


HOW TO APPLY

Application must be done online through the following steps:

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

They need to immediately present attested (by a notary) copies of the following documents:

  1. South African ID
  2. Matric results (if you are currently in Matric)
  3. Matric certificate (if completed Matric)
  4. Full academic transcript (if studying)
  5. Most recent university fee statement (if applicable)
  6. Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  7. Provisional University acceptance (if currently in Matric)
  8. In addition for Merit Bursary with Financial Need candidates:
  9. Parents’/guardians’ evidence of income (most recent payslips, sworn affidavit, or pension/grant proof)
  10. Recent bank statements for the last 3 months of applicant’s parent/guardian(s)
  11. Recent bill from a utility company (water, power or cell phone)
