About Schauenburg Education Trust

Using state-of-the-art technology, Schauenburg (Pty) Ltd (often referred to as "Schauenburg Systems") manufactures mining safety equipment, including inventive electrical items. The business manufactures turnkey systems and solutions for communication.

By giving young Black students financial aid (in the form of educational bursaries) so they can continue their tertiary studies in the fields of electronics, engineering, and economics, the Schauenburg Education Trust was established as a means of contributing to the nation's socioeconomic transformation.

Fields of Studies

For the 2026 academic year, students are being invited to apply for the Schauenburg Education Trust's bursary program. The following undergraduate programs at certain universities (UJ, UP, NMU, and WITS) will be eligible for bursaries:

  1. Bcom in Business Management (BM)
  2. Bcom in Business Administration (BAdmin)
  3. BSc/BEng in Electrical Engineering and Electronic Engineering

Coverage (Expenses)

The following costs will be partially or completely covered by the bursary:

  1. registration fees
  2. tuition
  3. and exam fees.

Additionally, students will be given money for living expenses, housing, course materials, and required textbooks.

The recipients of the bursary must work or shadow Schauenburg Systems for at least three weeks during the mid-year university breaks.

Students Selection

Candidates who make the short list will be contacted and asked to take psychometric tests and appear in person for an interview with the trustees and bursary administrators.

A written contract must be signed by the chosen candidates. Please consider your application unsuccessful if, within four weeks of the closing date, you do not hear back.

 

Requirements for Funding

Before applying, candidates must meet the following minimal standards;

  1. You have to be a citizen of South Africa.
  2. You have to have finished your matriculation.
  3. You have to be pursuing one of the aforementioned credentials full-time.
  4. In 2026, you have to be starting your second, third, or fourth year of study.
  5. The University of Pretoria, University of Johannesburg, North-West University (Vanderbijlpark), or University of the Witwatersrand are the four Gauteng-based universities where you must be enrolled.
  6. During your current academic year, you must have achieved good academic progress.
  7. You must have completed and passed every course you enrolled in during your time at the university.
  8. During the 2026 academic year, you cannot have any other bursary money.
  9. You have to be Black in accordance with B-BBEE laws.
  10. Black female students, Black students under 35, and Black students with disabilities will be given preference.

if you don't meet them all, your application won't be taken into consideration.

Along with your application, send in clear copies of the following supporting material:

  1. Certified ID copy
  2. Certified Matric certificate
  3. To date Full academic record
  4. A cover letter or motivational letter outlining your financial situation and the reasons you should be granted the bursary (no more than 800 words)
  5. Evidence of parental or guardian income (most recent paystubs if working, affidavit if not)

failing to submit the above-mentioned documents could result in your application being rejected
