The Support Teacher Empowerement Trust (STET) is a South African non-profit organisation that was launched in 2017 with a clear mission: to grow the next generation of skilled educators. STET focuses on empowering young Black women who want to build careers in education, especially in subject that are critical for the future.
Beyond financial support, STET offers mentorship, skills training and practical exposure. Its work strongly supports subjects such as Mathematics, Science, ICT, Coding and Robotics, helping to improve teaching quality and close digital skills gap in under-resourced schools. Through this approach, STET aims to prepare teachers who are confident, future-ready and able to thrive in a technology-driven classroom.
Fields of Study Covered
For the 2026 academic year, STET is offering bursaries to Black female students pursuing undergraduate studies in STEM-related fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)
The bursary is specifically for students who are studying or planning to study at UNISA.
Who can Apply?
To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a South African citizen
- Be Black and female
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Have successfully completed Matric
- Be studying or planning to study towards an undergraduate STEM qualification
- Be registered or intending to register at UNISA
